National Honor Society Gives Back This Holiday Season

NHS Coat Drive
The season of giving has finally arrived and Nacogdoches High School’s National Honor Society members are happy to participate. Driven by service and an aspiration for the betterment of the community, members happily give their time and resources. During the week of November 13th-17th members of the organization collected winter apparel for those not able to afford it. As a result, the organization gathered a total of 26 coats, 12 sweaters, 5 scarfs, 6 hats, and 13 pairs of gloves to donate to our local GODTEL. Before delivering the items to the shelter, Grogan’s Cleaners graciously dry-cleaned all of the items at no cost. The officers will deliver the clean items to GODTEL to offer warmth this holiday season. In addition, the NHS National Honor Society is looking forward to the service projects that will be completed in December. These include ringing the bell for the Salvation Army, making Christmas cards for patients and families at Texas Children's Hospital, and adopting a family to buy dinner and toys for this Christmas. Lastly, National Honor Society will gladly continue to serve the community, and encourages others to do the same.

NHS Donates Toys to Texas Children's Hospital Patients and Families
As the Christmas season approaches, life doesn't get easier for some. At Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, Texas, there are at least 500 patients spending the holidays in the hospital. Their parents and siblings are by their sides. It is warming to know that they do not go forgotten. Nacogdoches High School’s National Honor Society crafted spirit and joy-filled Christmas cards for the patients, siblings, and families. The caring did not end there. They also donated items ranging from Barbie dolls and Legos, to blankets, to coloring books, which are all welcomed and appreciated by everyone at Texas Children’s Hospital. Delmonte Thomas, photographed above, is an officer of the National Honor Society Chapter and a year-round Junior Volunteer at Texas Children’s Hospital’s Main Campus. He delivered the cards and donations over this past weekend. The items were graciously received and will be distributed throughout all departments of the hospital to the many patients and families. Thank you to all members of the the Nacogdoches High School’s National Honor Society and their sponsors who donated and helped spread the joy this holiday season to Texas Children's Hospital.
