NHS Speech and Debate students visit D.C.

Seven Speech and Debate students from Nacogdoches High School visited Washington, D.C., last month and received a special tour from U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert, whose First Congressional District in Northeast Texas includes Nacogdoches County.

Attending the trip were Fariha Sultana, Scottie Hutchens, Sabrina Munoz, Alexis Williams, Caleb Thompson, Armando Martinez and Luis Serrano, along with the NHS sponsor, Veronica York.

The students worked throughout the school year to raise money for the trip.

The highlight of the trip was the personal tour with Gohmert. The students were able to see the first site of the Supreme Court before it received its own building. They were also able to sit in the seats of the U.S. House of Representatives.

The personal tour from Gohmert provided students with a bit of insight into the mechanics of Washington, D.C.

During the trip, the students were able to visit many sites and museums.

The trip was both eye-opening and educational. Students were also given a chance to earn high school credit and enter a chance for a free trip.
