Fighting the Flu

Cold and influenza season are here and there are several things to do to help keep you and others well.

● If you have not had the flu shot, it is not too late.

● Wash your hands with soap and water.  If you do not have soap use a hand sanitizer.

● Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing. Throw away the tissue.

● Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. This is how the germs are spread.

● Frequently clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated.  Flu bugs can survive for hours on surfaces. One study showed flu viruses can live for up to 48 hours on hard, non-porous surfaces such as stainless steel and for up to 12 hours on cloth and tissues.

● Avoid close contact with sick people and stay at home if you are sick. 

● You must be fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medications before returning to school or work. 

● See your doctor for a high fever.

Eat well, drink a lot of liquids and stay healthy.
