  • This week is American Education Week!  Be thankful that you have access to an Education!Have a safe Thanksgiving Break.

    See your teachers for your testing rooms and for where your classes will meet.

  • Any young lady who is interested in trying out for the Lady Dragon Softball team needs to pick up an information sheet from Coach Carver. Try outs will be held on January 23 & 24.
  • All Advisories, Clubs, and Organizations, please collect toys and books for Christmas Blessings.  Advisories that bring at least one toy or book per class member by December 5th will receive a treat from Student Council.
  • Any young lady who is interested in trying out for the LADY DRAGON soccer team needs to pick up an informational packet from Coach Dial or Coach Dodd TODAY!
  • November 17-December 12, bring Canned Food to the Library for the East Texas Family Crisis Center and receive FINE FORGIVENESS: 50 cents per Can/Box of non-perishable food!  NHS is competing against all of the other NacISD schools for a trophy!  So bring in your Cans or Boxes of Food!
  • NHS is sponsoring the ANNUAL BUY A BIKE XMAS DRIVE!

Why QUIT?

  • 20 minutes after quitting:  Your heart rate and blood pressure drop.
  • 12 hours:  The carbon monoxide level in your blood drops to normal.
  • 2 weeks to 3 months:  Your circulation improves and your lung function increases.
  • 1 to 9 months:  Coughing and shortness of breath decrease; cilia start to regain normal function
  • 1 year:  The excess risk of coronary heart disease is half that of a continuing smoker’s.
  • 5 years:  Risk of cancer of the mouth, throat, esophagus, and bladder are cut in half. Cervical cancer risk falls to that of a non-smoker. Stroke risk can fall to that of a non-smoker after 2-5 years.
  • 10 years:  The risk of dying from lung cancer is about half that of a person who is still smoking. The risk of cancer of the larynx and pancreas decreases.
  • 15 year:  The risk of coronary heart disease is that of a non-smoker’s.

  • Congrats, Ms. Taravella and Mr. J. Johnson, for completing the Half-Marathon last Saturday!  Congrats, Ms. Jackson, for winning her category of the 5K!
  • Congrats to our NHS Students who ran in the 5K & the Half-Marathon!
