Dr. Michael J. O’Guin, Sr. is the principal at Nacogdoches High School:

Dr. O’Guin is in his second year as principal at Nacogdoches High School. Dr. O’Guin has 18 years of experience in public school education, with 7 years of administrative experience, and three years experience as an adjunct professor at St. Thomas University – Houston, and Texas Southern University. Dr. O’Guin began his career as a 10th-grade world history teacher in the Fort Bend Independent School District in Sugarland, TX. Dr. O’Guin then served as the Athletic Director / Head Football Coach in the Van Vleck Independent School District before deciding to return to graduate school to complete his doctoral studies and moving to the Galveston Independent School District as a teacher and coach. Dr. O’Guin returned to Fort Bend ISD for two more years before being promoted to instructional specialist in the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District. Dr. O’Guin was subsequently promoted to assistant principal in Cy-Fair ISD serving in that role for three years before arriving at Nacogdoches High School as the principal.

Dr. O’Guin is a native of Livingston, Texas where he went to elementary, primary, junior high, and high school where he graduated in 1988. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX in 1994, a Masters degree in education from Texas Southern University in 2002, and a doctorate degree from Texas Southern University in 2012. Dr. O’Guin has been married to his wife Janice for 26 years and they have two children, Michael Jr. (a graduate of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX, and currently a teacher/coach at Galena Park North Shore High School), and Jhanae (a graduate of Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, TX and currently a graduate student at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston).
