Julie Havard

Hello My Name Is...

Julie Havard

I was born in Oklahoma, but my family later moved to Florida where I spent most of my childhood.  I have one brother who still lives in Florida and I love to visit.  I moved to Nacogdoches when I was a junior in high school, and I graduated from Nacogdoches High School in 1986. I went to college at SFA and received my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 1990.  Pretty soon after college I got a job at Georgia-Pacific Resins, Inc. in Lufkin.  I began as a chemist there, checking in-process and final specifications of our products.  I also began doing water quality testing and regulatory reports.  After a few years I was promoted to a position where I helped the plant to become more streamlined and improved our quality.  After about ten years, I became the Lab Supervisor, managing all aspects of the laboratory.  During the first few years at GP, I went back to college at night and received a Master of Arts in English and Literature in 1997.

After 20 years work in industry, I decided to transition over to teaching. I craved fulfillment of a different type and I had always wanted to teach, even at a very early age.  I took college courses in Secondary Education over the summer of 2010 and started teaching at Martinsville ISD in the fall of 2010.  I am certified in Chemistry and Physical Science with an ESL endorsement.  I came back home to Nacogdoches High School in 2013.  I teach Physics and Chemistry. I love all things science and can be quite nerdy, and I hope I inspire the love of science in my students.
